DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
2012 MISSION TRIP "Go out to all the world…" "When you did it for one of these, the least of my brothers / sisters…" As Jesus said, "the poor will always be among you," and we need not look far to find brothers and sisters in need: warming shelters, food pantry's, homes for the elderly and handicapped. There are also those brothers and sisters of our whom live in extreme poverty …and we have seen them, and walked with them, in our mission trips to the Dominican Republic, and from there to step across the border into Haiti. Who are the people that go on these trips? We are women and men, single and married, deacons and priests, women religious; and ages have ranged between teenagers and seniors. What do you do there? The misson parishes that we visit decide on the construction projects that we'll be working on, and that we help to sponsor in our fundraising. In previous years we have helped build rural chapels, school rooms, and a main parish church. We work alongside members of the local community in the building project in whatever way we can …some in our groups come with construction skills, and the rest of us learn 'on the job.' What is the cost? The cost per person for our 2012 trip is $1,200. This will cover all transportation costs, meals and housing in the mission, and overnight room in Santo Domingo on our return to the States. What are the dates for the 2012 trip? We will be leaving on Friday January 27 and returning on Friday February 10. We leave Appleton around arrive in Santo Domingo at 3:40 pm, and from there we board a chartered bus for a four hour ride to the mission site. What do I need? You need to have a valid passport. Is that all? We also ask everyone to sign a "Volunteer Agreement Form", a "Medical Form", the $1,200 cost per person for this year's trip, and to be willing to help with fundraising for our projects. What do you do for fundraising? We ask family members and friends to help sponsor our projects; some members have approached their pastor asking permission for a special 2nd collection at their parish, or assisting in group fundraising events that we schedule during the year: brat fries, spaghetti dinner, etc. How do I sign up? Space is limited in our groups; 10 people for the Elías Piña site, and 15 for the Vallejuelo site. So, if you want to reserve a place we are asking for a $100 non-refundable deposit, with the check made out to "St. Therese Parish" and please include "DR mission trip" in the memo space. If you have a preference for either project site, please let us know. Please send your check to St. Therese Parish, 213 E. Wisconsin Avenue, Appleton 54911. What if I'd like to have more information? We have three informational meetings scheduled at St. Therese Parish: Sept. 8, Oct. 20, Nov. 10. All of these meetings are Thursday evenings, 6:30 p.m. If you are unable to join us, but would like to support our future mission projects, we would be most appreciative of your gift.
