HISPANIC MINISTRY

ANNUAL REPORT 2008-2009

"..Mary and Joseph are "the models and protectors of every migrant, alien and refugee o whatever kind who, whether compelled by fear of persecution or by, is forced to leave his native land..and to seek a foreign soil.."[1]

Dear People of God:

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION MINISTRY.

ü  Starting with the Religious Education Program 2008-2009: This involved a number of issues and matters in terms of responsibilities for coordination.  We had 78  families registered in the program. The number of Hispanics students was 87 with the same number for first communion. Fourteen catechists and the staff members served these families and students.

ü  Furthermore we had 5 parent gatherings in preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion (Two of these were retreats with 110 parents and children average), and Confirmation.

ü  The Catechetical Center next to St Therese is where we meet for retreats, workshops, classes. The catechists receive preparation and have special meetings.

ü  The Bible Study group has celebrated three years of life, initiated by Father Bill, gathering every Saturday in the morning. This Bible Study was created due to a petition of the community and especially from the Hispanic Committee.

ü  The youth group continues gathering every Saturday, after the Spanish Mass.  Confirmation program is in conjunction with youth group.

PASTORAL AND WORSHIP.

ü  Our Hispanic Ministry Committee meets monthly to facilitate the development and integration of the Hispanic membership within the context of the total parish.  A major focus of the pastoral ministry provided is the spiritual formation and training of leadership. We have been organizing specials events such as St Therese feast, Día de Muertos, Christmas, Posadas and more.  All liturgical ministers receive preparation by attending three sessions. Leadership in these ministries  consists of 15      lectors, 21 ministers of communion,    12 ministers of hospitality,  8 altar servers, two choirs each with their own coordinator.  There are 14 Hispanic catechists.   A married couple coordinates the preparation for baptism; another three married couples conduct the pre-matrimonial sessions, and three quinceañeras catequists.

ü   The parish has a Hispanic Charismatic prayer group which meets regularly on Saturdays and formation meetings on Sunday.  There is a team of leaders who have been prepared for this service.  This group sponsored retreats.

ü  Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration was celebrated at St Pius Church in Appleton, with a community gathering in the basement. We had the mass, prayers, dances, program and food.

ü  Ten members of our parish have been participating in Discipulos de Cristo Diocese of Green Bay's Program that consists in a three year certificate for men and women who seek to serve the local church. Days and evenings of reflection and retreat are also promoted. Right now we have two members that have completed their program, ready to response to God's call of discipleship in St Therese and more faith communities.

ü    The ministry sponsored through St. Therese encompasses an extensive territory. Hispanics from the following areas participate regularly: Appleton, Menasha, Neenah, Little Chute, Kaukauna. At times, we have persons who come from New London, Omro. But we have asked permission from their parishes to celebrate the sacraments here.

ü  Sacraments and celebrations: 99 Baptisms , 87 First Communions , 9 Confirmations , 10 Marriages, 13 Quinceañeras, 31 Presentations .

SOCIAL MINISTRY

ü  We are also working together with Inter-agencies Hispanic meetings, Intercultural Relationship Coordinator of the City, CASA HISPANA- LATINO LINK and ESTHER Organization Driver's License Program, Informational fairs, Immigrations Forums, Health forums and more.

PASTORAL CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES.

ü  To continue efforts to integrate to the American and Hispanic parish.

ü  To increase participation.

ü  To improve the information and participation in issues of Justice and Peace.

ü  To create more events for worship and reflect our values.

ü  To create retreats or workshops for marriages.

ü    Greater availability in the mission.

ü  To work with the young people.

ü  To create more fundraising events for the parish.

ü    A retreat for liturgical ministers to improve our communication.

ü  The Hispanic community desire to create and to increase their spiritual life. They want to discover their personal and spiritual gifts. They are lived and the cultural values of the Hispanic family are conserved. There are many activities in other parishes from the Diocese at level of formation to invite the community that they attend.

"..The parish has become an epicenter for integration into the church fold and into American life overall of the region's fastest- growing minority group. For immigrants living in a world where much around them may be unfamiliar, the church, already a central player in their lives, offers a haven of familiar rituals and Hispanic community.."[2]

Thank you very much.

PLAN OF HISPANIC PASTORAL IN SANTA TERESITA.   2009 - 2012

    OBJECTIVES OF the HISPANIC PASTORAL

                                    I.            To invite and to give the welcome to the Latin community in our church.

II.            To increase the number of Latin catholics who actively participate in the life and mission of santa Teresita.

III.            To develop activities that motivate vocations for the priesthood, permanent religious life or deaconship in our community.

IV.            To give the welcome and to support the young people of our community.

                                 V.            To increase the reach to the inmigrants with creative programs and projects that are pastoral and culturally effective to the community. That is to say, activities that arrive at the families, young people in risk, parents in necessity and broken families.

VI.            To fortify the promotion of the social lessons of the catholic church.

    ACHIVIEMENTS:

    1.               We counted on the program of catechism with bilingual texts and that in the 2007-2008 we had 59 registered families, 85 students for the first communion, and a special program of catechism for adults. We had prepared servants affluent. 12 Readers, 13 ministers of communion, 7 ushers, 6 servers. All of them generous and faithful ones in the mission.

    2.               To participate in adult catechesis to teach the meaning of the mass, lent and sacraments.

    3.               To obtain greater unit between Latin of the church the annual Retirements for ministers where the word of God studies. Group of young people preparing itself to receive the confirmation. We counted on preparation for sacraments. Preparation for quinceañeras. Three choirs very jeopardize. Our Hispanic Committee meets every month to facilitate the development and integration of the Hispanic community within the context of the parish.  Committees in charge of different celebrations and activities (supervisory Celebration, League of Soccer, Virgin of Guadalupe, inns, Day of dead, Stations of the Cross, Lent and others) the Biblical Study directed by the Father Bill has turned two years of life. This group arose from the specific request of the Hispanic committee. A group for the pastoral of patients has been created. "Healthy Jesus" works in coordination with the equipment.  We counted on a registry of members renewed.  We counted on page of Internet in Spanish.  Sacraments and celebrations: Baptisms 117, First communion 79, Confirmations 7, Marriages 11, Quinceañeras 15, Presentations 39. Presence continues of the community in our liturgies and events of social justice for the immigrants. We worked with HISPANIC CASA, LATIN LINK and with the organization ESTHER.

    CHALLENGES:

    1.      Increasing Number of the Hispanic community.

    2.      To renew efforts to integrate to the American and Latin parish.

    3.      To increase the participation of the parish.

    4.      To invite the community to that it participates in the liturgy and special events.

    5.      To improve the attention and participation in subjects of Justice and Peace.

    6.      To make together programs with the office of vocations, in Spanish to motivate to the priesthood, religious or deaconship life.

    7.      To make a photographic directory to know better our members of the parish. To certify our training like catechists.

    8.      To create more spaces for the oration and spiritual reflection.

    9.      To create married retirements or courses for marriages. Greater availability in the mission.

    10. To work with the young people. To make activities that give bottoms for the parish.  Desire of the community to discover its personal and spiritual gifts. There are many activities in other parishes from the Diocese at level of formation to invite the community that they attend. By our Hispanic tradition one lives on multiple ways the cultural values of the family. People always want to implement what she knows and she appreciates in his heart. The challenge is to adopt one better attitude of scarcity with respect to the diocesan structures and to the operation of the church in this country.  Clearer communication.  Better planning.

OUR DUTIES AND STRATEGIES LIKE MINISTERS AND MINISTERS:

    1.      We are directly responsible to the main shepherd, maintaining spiritual and faithful a relation as friends and collaborator in the vine of the Lord .

    2.      To invite the community to be ministers of the church.

    3.      To identify leaders in the community to invite them to  participate. To help the priest to fulfill the vision of God for the general ministry of the church.

    4.      To work with other members of the ministerial personnel in a spirit of friendship and aid to coordinate the activities of the Hispanic committee.

    5.      To identify young people with vocation to the priesthood or religious life in informing it to it to the Shepherd or the coordinator into the pastoral.

    6.      To be an example of the total ministry of the local church.

    7.      To be faithful in attending the services of the church.

    8.      To support to the church in the special events of the church.

    9.      To participate in the processes of decision of the parish.  To make the evaluations of the Hispanic pastoral.

    10. To maintain to the church with its tithes not to speak of any confidential information.

    11. Not to criticize to the leadership of the church, but to motivate a direct and constructive dialogue between us. To inform to the main shepherd when misunderstandings happens between members of the ministry.

    12. To participate in the dinners of volunteers.

    13. In regard of the social lessons of the catholic church: To explain and to distribute in English and Spanish the events of Justice for the immigrants, as much of Esther as of the diocese.
